Now Travelers Can Make Extra Cash by Renting Their Car at the Airport with FlightCar

Sick of paying for parking at the airport?

Why not hookup with FlightCar, the world’s first peer-to-peer car sharing company to operate at airports? FlightCar’s service helps people rent their car to other approved travelers and make extra cash instead of leaving their car unused at the airport. Members get free parking, a car wash, and get paid if their car is rented out (see how much here). Every rental is insured up to $1 million, and every renter is pre-screened.

The prices that FlightCar offers are substantially lower than those of the major rental chains. The service can undercut the prices of the larger chains by up to 70 percent at certain times of the year, because it doesn’t have to bear the cost of inventory. The service also provides the valet experience to renters — give FlightCar a call when you land and be picked up in your rental. They also provide GPS and car seats for free during the rental, as well as no underage fee for drivers 21 and older, a point of difference between them and their competitors.

Backed by influential investors such as Ashton Kutcher and Ryan Seacrest, the company is headstrong on pioneering the sharing economy. So far FlightCar has expanded to SFO, BOS, and LAX, with plenty of other airports in its sights.

Here’s how it works:

TO PARK YOUR CAR:

1. List your car

Enter your vehicle and trip information in FlightCar’s database. FlightCar is free to join and you get free parking and a car wash and vacuum every time you park. If your car is rented by another trusted member, you’ll get cash. Renter mileage is limited to 100 miles per day of your listing.

2. Drop off your car

On departure day, visit the FlightCar lot, located a few minutes from the airport. After a quick check-in, they’ll have a black car drop you off curbside at the terminal of your departure or another location within ten minutes of the lot.

3. Pick up your car

When you return, FlightCar will send a black car to pick you up at the curb at your arrival gate. Check your phone for a text with instructions for meeting your driver or call them at 1-844-4-FLT-CAR (358-227). If your car was rented, your check will be in the mail!

TO RENT A CAR:

1. Reserve Your Car

Enter your trip information in the FlightCar database. Choose the vehicle type you like and book your rental. All cars meet age/mileage requirements and are cleaned and tested.

2. Pick Up

On arrival day, FlightCar will send a black car to pick you up at the airport. Check your phone for a text from them with instructions for meeting your driver or call them at 1-844-4-FLT-CAR (358-227). A FlightCar representative will greet you at their location with your rental car, ready to drive away!

3. Drop Off

Return your rental car to the FlightCar location by the end of your rental period. They’ll have a black car drop you off curbside at your terminal of departure or another location within ten minutes of their location.

“Consumers are increasingly embracing the sharing economy, and FlightCar is offering travelers a relevant and financially rewarding system to share their vehicle with others when out-of-town,” said Gregory P. Johnson, Chief Operating Officer at FlightCar, “it’s a privilege to be part of this rapidly growing company, and provide my experience to help the team find customer-centric opportunities to catalyze the business by streamlining processes and implementing ideas that scale.”
