Camp Rockaway Will Bring Glamping to New York’s Rockaway Beach

Camp Rockaway, a Kickstarter project by Kent Johnson, founder of milktrout, a design/build firm based in New York City, is a safari-style glamping experience in New York’s Rockaway Beach. The canvas tents will be carefully situated in a quiet, beautifully landscaped campground overlooking Jamaica Bay. Each tent comes fully furnished with plush beds, crisp white sheets and summer-weight blankets. Amenities include private fire pits, outdoor showers and hot tubs overlooking the bay. City dwellers will no longer need to end their day at the beach with a hot subway ride home. Instead they can unwind in a hammock or explore Rockaway’s restaurants, nightlife and cultural events.

The project will revive a current industrial site with green-building strategies including the reintroduction of indigenous plant species to the site that will hopefully become a refuge for birds and other local wildlife.
