“Little Girl”

This little girl was photographed outside of a temple I visited in Chiang Mai,  Thailand. She walked over to me, flexing the fingers of her tiny hand back-and-forth, and said, “mon-ey, mon-ey”. Overwhelmed by her beautiful smile, and enchanting clothing, I handed her the only coin I had in my pocket. She looked at me, bowed as a gesture of thanks, and posed as I snapped several pictures of her. As I walked away I turned around to get one last look at the stunning child and saw her deliver the meager coin to a woman sitting at the base of the temple staircase. A shiver ran down my spine as I wondered about the little girl’s fate. I find hope in this frozen image which captures her vibrant smile and kindred spirit.
